Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara had a working session with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on October 25 at the Government headquarters.

Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara assessed that Vietnam is one of Thailand’s most important partners in the region, and the two countries’ economies still have a lot of potential and room for development.

He hoped to effectively implement the “Three Connections” strategy between the two countries, promoting cooperation in the fields of politics, economics, tourism, air and road connectivity, cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

The “Three Connections” strategy includes connecting the supply chain of mutually supporting industries, connecting the grassroots economy, especially small and medium-sized enterprise groups, with localities, connecting sustainable development strategies between bioeconomy-circular economy-green economy policies of Thailand and Vietnam’s green development strategy.

According to Parnpree, Thai businesses believed in the potential and investment environment of Vietnam. They wanted to expand investment in Vietnam, deployed projects in some Vietnamese localities, including energy projects.

He asked the Vietnamese Government to continue supporting Thai investors. He affirmed that the Thai Government will also create favorable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to expand investment in Thailand.

Parnpree said Thailand will continue to coordinate closely with Vietnam in multilateral and regional mechanisms, including cooperation in developing the Mekong sub-region, management and sustainable use of Mekong River water resources.

Thailand will also cooperate with Vietnam and ASEAN countries to promote solidarity, central role and common viewpoint of ASEAN, especially on important issues such as the East Sea.

At the exchange, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed that the two countries promote trade development, expand investment, effectively implement the “Three Connections” initiative as well as cooperate in new fields such as digital transformation and green energy.

Appreciating that Thailand continues to be Vietnam’s largest trading partner in ASEAN and the 9th largest foreign investor in Vietnam, the Prime Minister hopes that the two sides will coordinate and strive to bring bilateral trade turnover to soon reach the target of US$25 billion in a more balanced direction.

The two countries limit trade barriers, facilitate the import and export of goods between the two countries.
