Tropical Depression Heading for Central Vietnam
A low-pressure area in the East Sea has developed into a tropical depression and is moving towards the central coast of Vietnam, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
As of 7:00 p.m., the tropical depression was located about 170km south of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, with winds gusting approximately 60kph. It is moving westward at a speed of 10-15kph.
The tropical depression is expected to maintain its direction and speed in the next 24-36 hours before making landfall on the central coast of Vietnam on September 26.
This tropical depression is expected to bring heavy rain to the central region, with rainfall ranging from 100-300mm or more. Rainfall of 100-150mm is also expected in the Central Highlands and some southern localities.
The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention has issued a dispatch requesting relevant units in the affected areas to closely monitor the development of the tropical depression and take necessary precautions. Fishing vessels should avoid dangerous areas, and fishing farms should be reinforced. Rescue forces should be on standby in case of worsening weather conditions.
