In addition, two of the country's dishes have recently made it to a list of the world's 60 most famous foods to try at least once in a lifetime. Vietnam completes term as Vice President of UN General Assembly’s 77th session

As the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) concluded on September 5, Vietnam successfully completed its one-year term as Vice President of the session.

Vietnam has successfully performed its role, demonstrated through its extensive participation in the discussions to push the UNGA to approve agendas covering all aspects of international life. It has also fully participated in the process of proposing and planning important decisions for the world.

During the last term, Vietnam and several countries have proposed initiatives and solutions on many major UN issues such as upholding international marine law, and law of the sea, water security, responsibility to prevent and control crimes against humanity, equal access to justice, preparation for the summit on diseases prevention and control, universal health coverage, tuberculosis, and UNGA operation’ reforms.

It also joined the preparation of a report from the UN Secretary-General on the organization’s activities, a report from the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and a report from the International Criminal Court (ICC), cited VNA.

Notably, Vietnam chaired the UNGA to discuss and pass a resolution requesting the ICJ to provide advisory opinions on the issue of climate change and resolutions on organizing a high-level meeting on readiness for disease responses.

Its proactive and positive participation aimed to make concrete and practical contributions to the common work, and major priorities of the UN and the international community, contribute to promoting international cooperation and solidarity, and strengthen multilateralism to effectively respond to increasingly harsh emerging global challenges.

In addition, Vietnam also supported the President of the UNGA to smoothly and effectively run the common affairs of the UN including major high-level events and important sessions of the UNGA, as well as coordinate discussions and negotiations to develop documents and processes with long-term strategic orientation of the UN for the coming years.

It is a country where the President of the 77th UNGA is assigned to chair meetings of the General Assembly.

Vietnam prioritizes deepening cooperative partnership with China

Vietnam attaches importance to strengthening relations with China, considering this a strategic choice and top priority, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told Premier Li Qiang in Jakarta, Indonesia, on September 6.

Meeting the Chinese Premier on the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Summit, Chinh said Vietnamese ministries and agencies are working closely with their relevant Chinese counterparts to take effective measures towards realizing common perceptions reached by top leaders of the two countries, including stepping up bilateral high-level exchanges and contacts in the near future.

On this occasion, he conveyed regards from senior Vietnamese leaders, including Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Vo Van Thuong, and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, to Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and other high-ranking leaders.

Li, for his part, conveyed warm regards from Chinese Party General Secretary President Xi and other Chinese high-ranking leaders to Party leader Trong and other Vietnamese leaders, according to VOV.

He welcomed Chinh’s attendance at the opening of the earlier 20th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) in Nanning, Guangxi, and affirmed readiness to maintain regular high-level exchanges to deepen discussions on issues of mutual concerns.

Both sides expressed their satisfaction at the positive development of the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and agreed to enhance regular all-level contacts to contribute to more effective, substantive, and deeper cooperation between the two countries.

Hosting the Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians shows Vietnam’s responsibility: official

With the hosting of the ninth Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians (GCYP) in mid-September, Vietnam continues to demonstrate its role and responsibility to the world community, Chairman of the National Assembly (NA)’s Committee for Foreign Affairs Vu Hai Ha has said.

Talking to the media, Ha said the conference will help promote the role of young parliamentarians and youths in addressing global challenges, as well as their contributions to the implementation of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development.

The GCYP, the only important multilateral foreign affairs activity hosted by the Vietnamese legislature this year, is a continuation of its previous proactive and positive activities to address global problems through the trend of digital transformation and innovation to make progress in meeting the goals set out in the current development stage of Vietnam as well as in the world, he stated.

With the theme “The role of young people in promoting the implementation of sustainable development goals through digital transformation and innovation”, this conference’s discussions will focus on digital transformation, innovation, start-up, and cultural and human values in sustainable development, reported VNA.

These topics raised by the Vietnamese NA at this event have been highly appreciated by international friends, Ha said, adding that the goal is to promote contributions by young people to the UN Agenda and through current world development trends such as digital transformation and innovation.

He expressed his hope that ideas raised by young people this time will help boost socio-economic development in each country, and fulfil the UN sustainable development goals.

The ninth Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians is scheduled to take place from September 14-18 in Hanoi capital city.

As of August 28, 64 delegations registered for the event, with a total of 244 attendees, including 172 legislators and 72 assistants and others, according to Ha.

Two Vietnamese dishes among the world’s 60 famous foods to try in a lifetime

US-based newspaper Insider recently unveiled the 60 famous foods to try in the lifetime of readers, with Vietnamese dishes Phở (noodle soup) and Banh mi (baguette) included in the list.

The media outlet suggests sampling a warm bowl of Pho, a Vietnamese noodle soup that boasts tonnes of flavor at Dong Thap Noodles in Seattle, the US. The meal is comprised of three pounds of noodles, meat, and liters of broth, respectively.

Although it is meant for a family of six to seven people, if diners are able to finish the bowl within 90 minutes then they can get a US$500 reward. Only three people have successfully completed the challenge, according to Insider.

Banh mi is a popular type of sandwich in Vietnam. The inexpensive staple is usually made using pate, bright and crunchy vegetable slaw, fish sauce, and sliced jalapeño peppers or fresh cilantro, the article reports.

The publication therefore recommends Banh Mi Huynh Hoa, a site that is recognized as one of the most famous spots to try the sandwich in Ho Chi Minh City.

Insider compiles a list of the most famous foods from around the world in order to determine the top 60 foods everyone should try at least once in their lifetime. Some items, such as Chicago’s deep-dish pizza, won’t need foodies to break the bank, but others require traveling a little further afield or even visiting Michelin-star restaurants.

Others on the list are chocolatería San Ginés of Spain, the snail dish of France, Greek spanakopita, Italian pizza, and Italian Caprese salad.

La Liga helps Vietnam develop professional football

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Spanish Football League (La Liga) signed a memorandum of understanding on football cooperation in Hanoi on September 6.

Under the MoU, VFF and La Liga will cooperate on expertise exchange to develop professional and community football as well as national teams of Vietnam, along with training projects.

The La Liga Vietnam Academy will organize training courses for coaches to develop young football talents together with VFF, cited VNN.

VFF General Secretary Duong Nghiep Khoi said such cooperation will open up opportunities for Vietnamese football to learn about professional football in Europe, including in La Liga, one of the leading football brands in the continent.

The MoU can bring the youth team of Vietnam to Spain for training in order to acquire experience and hone skills for future international tournaments, especially the World Cup, he expected.

Khoi also revealed that the national football team is likely to play a number of international friendlies with Syria, Palestine, the Republic of Korea, and China

Ivan Codina, La Liga’s Southeast Asia managing director, affirmed that Vietnam is a strategically important country in Asia for La Liga, and La Liga is proud to cooperate with VFF to develop Vietnamese football.
