Tran Thi Hai and her husband, who live in Nui Thanh District, Quang Nam Province in central Vietnam, have gone above and beyond to provide for underprivileged students. From their own resources, they have constructed a boarding house that offers free lodging for those in need.
The boarding house is a place of love and nurturing, providing kindness and dreams to many impoverished students.
The House of Kindness is a place of love and understanding where people can come to be embraced by the warmth of friendship and kindness. Here, we offer a safe and supportive atmosphere for those who need it most. We strive to create an environment where individuals can find solace and healing, and where they can learn to give and receive kindness. Our goal is to provide a place of refuge and respite, where people can find peace and hope. We hope to be a beacon of light in a world full of darkness, and to be a place of hope and healing for those who need it most.
Only 10 minutes after school finishes, students ride their bicycles eagerly to hastily return to the boarding house.
Despite their hectic schedules, both Hai and her husband take the time to observe the students living in their boarding house and ensure that they are doing well in their studies.
We’re delighted that they are attending school regularly and working diligently.

Their families have faith in us and report that their kids have seen improvement.
Money is not an obstacle when it comes to helping them pursue their educational journey. With the right resources and support, they can reach their learning goals.
The family of Hai in Nui Thanh Town, Quang Nam District, is renowned for their commitment to helping the disadvantaged and the community. Their work has had a positive impact on the local area, offering much-needed assistance to those in need.
Local authorities and associations often visit and support the boarding house, providing much-needed assistance and resources.
Hai resolved to use her resources to construct a boarding house for less privileged students after she and her spouse did charity work in remote areas and witnessed the difficult life of the inhabitants there.
Meanwhile, her house is nestled in the center of Nui Thanh Town and is close to many large schools.
Nui Thanh District is expansive, requiring many students to travel long distances of up to dozens of kilometers in order to attend their schools. To avoid this, some students opt to rent rooms near their schools.
Hai and her husband had a thorough conversation about their plan to use their savings to build a boarding house.
In June of last year, a six-room boarding house boasting ample living and study amenities was erected near Hai’s residence.
Each room in the boarding house is spacious, measuring 20 square meters. This provides plenty of room for tenants to feel comfortable and relaxed.
In the beginning, many people believed that the boarding house had been constructed to be rented out, and that poor students would be unable to afford the rooms.
However, when the boarding house was put into use, Hai hung a banner outside, proclaiming that it was free for poor students and workers.
This came as a surprise to many of the local residents and teachers, as the students had to pay anywhere between VND500,000 – 1,000,000 (US$21 – 43) per month to rent a room in Nui Thanh. However, Hai’s boarding house, which is beautifully designed, clean, and fully-equipped, is offered free of charge.
Students at the boarding house can focus on their studies without having to worry about paying room rent. By eliminating the need to pay rent, students can concentrate fully on their studies and reach their academic goals. |

Hai and her husband have been instrumental in supporting their community for many years. From providing food to those in need, to volunteering their time and resources, they have been dedicated to helping their neighbors in any way possible.
They also purchased an ambulance to transport patients in challenging situations to medical facilities.
Hai declared that constructing a free-of-charge boarding house is a way of providing help. His goal is long-term: to encourage the dreams of impoverished students and decrease the distance between them and school.
More importantly, underprivileged students will see the support of others and give back when they mature.
According to Hai, all six rooms in her boarding house have been occupied by students of Nguyen Hue High School in Nui Thanh District, illustrating the increasing demand for student accommodation in the area.
The boarding house is equipped with high-tech features such as surveillance cameras and fast Wi-Fi for the students’ convenience. To further promote an active lifestyle, Hai has also provided bicycles in front of the boarding house, allowing students to easily commute to school.
Nguyen Tinh, a student from Tam Thanh Commune in Nui Thanh District, was delighted to find safe and comfortable accommodation at Hai’s boarding house. He said he felt “very fortunate” to have found such a suitable place to stay.
Tinh’s family was impoverished. To attend school, he had to take a bus or walk there from the break of dawn.
After Hai’s boarding house was completed, she invited teachers to introduce their students to her new abode.
Tinh was delighted when he was granted a room that many of the wealthier students would have been envious of. He couldn’t have been more pleased with his new accommodation.
Tinh said the room was spacious and comfortable, and he warmly welcomed two other disadvantaged students to share it. The room was clean and tidy, with tables placed in the corners to provide the perfect environment for these poor students to pursue their academic dreams.
At the end of the boarding house, Hai equipped the premises with stoves and saucepans, allowing students to cook and save money on their meals.
“I’m immensely thankful to Hai for granting me the opportunity to stay in her boarding house free of cost and work towards achieving my ambition of continuing my studies,” Tinh expressed.
She not only helps me, but also puts my parents’ minds at ease knowing that I have a secure place to stay, considering this is the first time I have been away from my family for such an extended period of time.
Besides Tinh, the boarding house is now home to 18 other students who were recommended by their teachers or acquaintances. Everyone is excited to start a new journey in this unique environment and to discover the potential that lies within them.
Hai gives priority to students who live far from school and demonstrate remarkable determination in their studies despite the difficulties they face in life.
Chau Huyen Ha Tram, a resident of Tam Tra Commune in Nui Thanh District, revealed that her house is located almost 30 kilometers away from her school. To make sure that she arrives to school on time, she had to wake up at 4:00 am and take a bus.
Tram recalled that when she came to Nui Thanh Town to study, she had considered dropping out of school due to the long distance and high living expenses. The cost of travel and accommodation was a major obstacle for her, and she had felt overwhelmed by it all. However, with determination and hard work, she was able to overcome this challenge and eventually succeed in her studies. Tram’s story is a testament to the power of resilience and dedication. No matter what obstacles one may face, with determination and hard work, anything is possible.
“Living in the free boarding house, I’m truly happy,” Tram exclaimed. “My mom no longer has to worry about my room rentals!”
In addition, Hai and her husband provide us with loving care, consistent encouragement, and gentle reminders to study diligently, inspiring me and the other students to strive even harder.
Cao Thi Anh Suong, a student from Tam Son Commune in Nui Thanh District, was filled with excitement upon reaching the boarding house. However, she was also slightly anxious that the owners would later demand payment from her. To her delight, she discovered that all of the rooms were free.
We advise one another to remain quiet, maintain order, and arrive at school punctually so as not to disturb our boarding house proprietors and neighboring residents, Suong remarked.
