Prime Minister Meets with US Defense Secretary

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed a wish to develop the comprehensive partnership with the US on the basis of mutual benefits during his reception in Hanoi on July 29 for visiting US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the United States for providing Vietnam with vaccines and medical equipment through the COVAX Facility initiative and bilateral channels.

The Vietnamese leader proposed strengthening cooperation between the two countries in addressing the consequences of war.

Austin confirmed that the United States will continue to support Vietnam in addressing the aftermath of the war, including the search for the remains of Vietnamese soldiers, dioxin detoxification, and mine clearance. Additionally, the United States will assist in enhancing Vietnam’s maritime security capabilities and participation in UN peacekeeping activities.

He also pledged to continue assisting Vietnam and other countries in gaining early access to COVID-19 vaccines to combat the pandemic as quickly as possible.
