Hanoi FC has signed a one-year deal with Vietnamese-American defender Kyle Colonna, a talented player with a strong footballing pedigree.
Colonna, who has Vietnamese heritage from his mother’s side, impressed during his trial and will be a great addition to the squad. The club has secured his services after a successful spell at San Diego State University, where he made 69 appearances and led the team as captain for two years.
His standout achievement was in 2022 when he helped the university’s team reach the top 14 in the US rankings. This impressive performance earned him a contract with New Mexico United FC in the USLC.
At New Mexico United, Colonna showcased his defensive prowess, playing 11 matches, scoring two goals, and maintaining an impressive 86% pass accuracy.

Colonna shared his excitement about joining Hanoi FC and expressed his long-held dream of returning to Vietnam, the country his mother often spoke about and whose cuisine she lovingly prepared. He is eager to make his mark and contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Vietnamese football is undergoing a significant transformation, with the Vietnam Professional Football League now allowing V.League 1 clubs to sign up to two overseas Vietnamese players each. Colonna is the second overseas Vietnamese player to secure a contract in the V.League 1, following in the footsteps of Jason Quang Vinh Pendant at Cong An Ha Noi FC.
We welcome Kyle Colonna to Hanoi FC and wish him a fantastic season ahead!
