This online exhibition showcases a rich collection of archival documents and visuals, shedding light on the resilient struggle and resistance of Hanoi’s people and their army against French colonial rule from the late 19th century until 1954. Many of these artifacts are being revealed to the public for the first time.

The exhibition is thoughtfully divided into three compelling sections: “Hanoi in Flames” transports visitors back to the early days of the French invasion; “Hanoi Uprising” showcases the fiery revolutionary struggles that took place in Hanoi from 1930 to 1954; while “Hanoi’s Triumphant Return” celebrates Liberation Day and the enduring spirit of victory with captivating images and documents.

Addressing the gathering at the opening ceremony, Pham Tuan Long, Chairman of the Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee, highlighted how the exhibition’s digital format captures the dynamic and progressive nature of the capital while simultaneously preserving traditional values through the display of precious archival photographs.

“We believe this exhibition will captivate and educate the public through the power of digital technology, offering a window into Hanoi’s illustrious history—a city steeped in a thousand years of civilization, heroism, and peace within the broader context of Vietnam’s history,” expressed Chairman Pham Tuan Long. “It is our hope that this initiative will foster a deeper sense of patriotism and pride among Hanoi’s residents and support the growth of our cultural industry.”

This will be achieved through a diverse range of cultural activities, events, and festivals for both residents and tourists to enjoy.
