The cold spell is forecast to last for several days, with temperatures hovering at around eight to 10 degrees Celsius in the northern region. Indeed, temperatures are set to drop to as low as below five degrees Celsius in northern mountainous areas. Most notably, the peak of Fansipan mountain in Lao Cai province records temperatures of -8 degrees Celsius early in the morning on December 19.
