Embark on a journey to uncover the essence of Truc Lam Zen Buddhism, intertwined with the rich culture and history of the land revered as the “fourth blessed land of Giao Chau.”
Yen Tu Mountain stands as an enduring symbol of Vietnamese Buddhism, where King-Monk Tran Nhan Tong cultivated and established the Truc Lam Zen sect. This sect embodies a spirit of harmony, engagement, and profound connection with the nation.
The annual festival perpetuates this legacy, presenting the Yen Tu historical and scenic site to both domestic and international visitors, while fostering tourism growth and investment opportunities.
The year 2025 marks a significant milestone with UNESCO’s recognition of the Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son, Kiep Bac historical complex as a World Cultural Heritage site in July. This prestigious honor underscores the region’s timeless global significance.
Bui Hoang Giang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Yen Tu ward, emphasizes that the festival not only showcases Yen Tu’s natural splendor but also fosters community pride and creativity.
The province aspires to cultivate the image of ‘Yen Tu ward – embracing heritage, thriving with heritage, and prospering from heritage,’ positioning it as a cultural, tourism, and service epicenter of Quang Ninh.
The festival boasts a diverse array of activities. A logo design contest garnered 109 submissions from 50 creators, with 11 exceptional works honored during the event. An arts camp, titled “Yen Tu in Autumn,” converges photography, music, painting, and poetry, enriching promotional materials and celebrating local culture.
A standout event is the “Yen Tu Heritage – Touch the Heritage” marathon, scheduled for November 15–16. This second edition is anticipated to draw thousands of runners from Vietnam and beyond, offering a unique fusion of sport and spirituality amidst Yen Tu’s sacred forests. Earlier this year, the ward also hosted the Ultra Trail Yen Tu race, attracting over 1,000 participants.
Throughout the remainder of 2025, visitors can immerse themselves in cultural performances, folk games, local culinary delights, herbal wellness treatments, and curated tours such as “Sunrise at Dong Pagoda” and “Tracing the Footsteps of King Tran Nhan Tong.” Programs will also highlight Dao Thanh Y traditions, including national intangible heritage rituals like the Cap Sac ceremony.
