This week-long event marks the 120th anniversary of Ha Dong District, featuring a diverse range of activities until December 6. The program is carefully curated into three main segments: solemn ceremonial rituals, captivating cultural showcases, and a vibrant trade fair.

One of the key highlights is the ceremony honoring the founders of the craft village, set to take place on December 1, 2024, with an expected attendance of over 1,000 participants. This procession will pay homage to the three saints who established Van Bao Village (now known as Van Phuc Village) and passed on the ancient art of silk weaving to its residents.

On December 4, memorial gifts will be offered to the village founders during a solemn ceremony. On the same day, the Van Phuc authorities will unveil the House of Fame, a traditional house that will serve as a testament to the village’s rich history.

Within the walls of this house, one can explore a carefully curated collection of documents, images, and artifacts that showcase the incredible journey of the artisans and skilled workers. It is a space that not only celebrates their significant contributions but also educates younger generations about their heritage and the village’s time-honored traditions.

The cultural section of the event is a melting pot of various intangible cultural heritages, including water puppetry, folk singing, and ritual performances. It also shines a spotlight on Hanoi’s renowned traditional crafts, such as the fragrant Quang Phu Cau incense, the intricate Phu Vinh rattan creations, and the elegant Trach Xa traditional ao dai.

Additionally, visitors are invited to embark on a journey through Van Phuc Village, exploring historic landmarks such as the Memorial House for President Ho Chi Minh, where he penned the letter calling for national resistance in 1946, and the sacred temples and shrines dedicated to the craft founders.

The village, located in Hanoi’s Ha Dong District, is not just known for its silk weaving tradition; it also boasts a 1,000-year-old history. Visitors can immerse themselves in the local market, wander through ornamental plantations, and indulge in the delicious local cuisine.

According to Nguyen Van Du, Chairman of the Van Phuc Ward People’s Committee, the local government has made significant investments in cultural, religious, and technical infrastructures to support the development of the craft village and its potential for tourism. He added, “We are proud to celebrate the village’s heritage, craftsmanship, and diverse services through this event, which has become a flagship celebration since its inception in 2013.”

This year, the authorities are focused on promoting the artistry and historical significance of Van Phuc Silk Village, preserving intangible cultural heritages, enhancing the region’s appeal to tourists, and fostering collaboration among Hanoi’s craft villages.

Mr. Du further emphasized their commitment to sustainable tourism development, ensuring that it goes hand in hand with the region’s socio-economic growth. He stated, “We believe in creating a harmonious balance between showcasing our cultural riches and respecting the environment and community that has nurtured these traditions for centuries.”

At the opening ceremony, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade bestowed a special recognition upon Van Phuc Ward, certifying it as a Center for Design, Creativity, Promotion, and Marketing of OCOP Products, with a particular focus on their exquisite silk creations.
