Rise in Attendance at Lim Festival in Northern Vietnam Attracts Thousands of Visitors
The Lim Festival in the northern Vietnamese province of Bac Ninh, home to UNESCO-recognized ‘quan ho’ (love duet) singing, welcomed dozens of thousands of visitors during its two-day course on Thursday and Friday.
The annual event takes place in Tien Du District, Bac Ninh, which is approximately 30km away from downtown Hanoi. It serves as a significant cultural celebration in the province and stands as one of the largest spring festivals in northern Vietnam. This year’s festivities will be held on the 13th day of the first Lunar month, specifically on February 3.

The event showcases a range of engaging activities, including an exquisite incense offering ceremony at the esteemed Hong Tan Temple located on the picturesque Lim Hill. Additionally, attendees can look forward to an awe-inspiring procession that will commence from the historic Dinh Ca communal house and progress towards the revered Lo Bao communal house. Furthermore, a mesmerizing firework display has been arranged in the scenic Van Tuong Lake area, adding a magnificent touch to this exceptional event.

The festival seeks to foster and uphold traditional cultural values in Tien Du District and Bac Ninh.

This year’s event is a highly anticipated comeback following a three-year hiatus caused by the impact of COVID-19.
Tran Thi Huong, a member of a 70-person group from Hoa Binh Province, expressed disappointment in the raining and cold weather experienced during their journey to Bac Ninh. Despite the unfavorable conditions, the group proceeded with their travel, making a 120km journey on the prime day of the festival.

However, this does not dampen our spirits for the enchanting melodies of ‘quan ho’.
“This is my inaugural visit to the prestigious Lim Festival,” shared Luong Hong Hanh, accompanied by her husband all the way from the distant northern province of Lang Son, spanning a distance of 100km.”

Despite the inclement weather, the location remains highly populated.
The current weather conditions may not be ideal, but I am determined to fully embrace and appreciate all that this experience has to offer. I am particularly excited to witness the traditional and captivating ‘quan ho’ performances.

The Lim Festival, held in the northern Vietnamese province of Bac Ninh, attracted a large number of visitors over the course of two days, Thursday and Friday. This festival is home to the UNESCO-recognized ‘quan ho’ (love duet) singing.
The event is an annual cultural highlight of Bac Ninh’s Tien Du District, located approximately 30km from downtown Hanoi. It is one of the largest spring festivals in northern Vietnam, taking place on the 13th day of the first Lunar month (February 3 this year).

The event encompasses a range of captivating experiences, commencing with an enchanting incense offering at the esteemed Hong Tan Temple situated atop Lim Hill. This is followed by a mesmerizing procession that originates from the revered Dinh Ca communal house and concludes at the esteemed Lo Bao communal house. The festivities culminate with a captivating firework display set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Van Tuong Lake vicinity.
Attendees of the festival will have the opportunity to appreciate the enchanting melodies of ‘quan ho,’ a traditional Vietnamese folk music form that was officially acknowledged in UNESCO’s prestigious intangible cultural heritage of humanity list in 2009.

We are thrilled to announce that this year’s event is making a comeback after a three-year break, which was unfortunately caused by the global pandemic.
“It is unfortunate that the weather is currently raining and cold,” stated Tran Thi Huong, a participant from a group of 70 individuals who traveled a distance of 120km from Hoa Binh Province to Bac Ninh on Friday, the main day of the festival.
