Stamp set on the great composer Beethoven to be issued

The Hanoitimes - The stamp set called "Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827)" to commemorate and honor the great composer’s dedication to the music and art.

On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the birth of the great German composer Ludwig van Beethoven, the commemorative stamp set themed Beethoven’s portrait was introduced by Ministry of Information and Communication.

Designed by artist Pham Quang Dieu, the stamp set features a stamp sample and a stamp block. The stamp is a sketch portrait of Beethoven  when he was young. Both of the stamp and stamp block’s backgrounds are illustrated with the image of the house where Beethoven was born and grew up, at number 20, Bonngasse Street, Bonn (Old Capital of the Federal Republic of Germany) near the banks of the Rhine River.

Materials related to the stamp set was provided by the Beethoven-Haus Bonn and Beethoven Jubiläums GmbH (Beethoven Anniversary Society) to Vietnam Post Corporation. The corporation was also given the right to issue the stamp nationally and internationally.

Stamps with size of 43 x 32 millimeters and stamp’s block with size of 100 x 80 millimeters are available on the post office  network from December 16, 2020 to June 30, 2022 at VND4,000 per stamp.

Born into a family of musicians, Ludwig van Beethoven is one of the most admired composers in the history of Western music. His works rank amongst the most performed of the classical music repertoire which span the transition from the classical period to the romantic era in classical music.

Deaf for several years in the rest of his life, Beethoven passed away in March 26, 1827.
