Passengers from Britain, the United States, and France arrived on a cruise ship to the port in Phu Loc District. This marked the first luxury port call of the year. Over 1,000 passengers disembarked from the ship to explore heritage sites and enjoy the cuisine in Hue, Da Nang City, and Hoi An City. At the welcome ceremony, officials, including Nguyen Thanh Binh, vice-chairman of the provincial administration, presented flowers and gifts to the first cruise passengers. The ship departed from the Thua Thien-Hue-based port on Sunday evening.
In 2023, the port received 25 cruise ships carrying approximately 50,000 international passengers and sailors to the province and the central region. For 2024, the port is expected to welcome 32 cruise ships with approximately 60,000 passengers on board. Thua Thien-Hue Province aims to attract four million visitors this year, with 60-70 percent being domestic travelers. The projected tourism revenue for 2024 is VND7,000-8,000 billion (US$288.7-330.4 million).
A Replica of Hue in South Vietnam
Nguyen Thanh Tung lived in Hue for only five years, but its beauty has been deeply carved in his mind. He nurtured for a long time an idea to make a replica of his native city, which had been, for nearly four centuries, the country’s capital imbued with full national cultural and historical identities. Hue was recognized by UNESCO as a World’s Cultural Heritage in 1993.
