This is a historic moment for the headquarters of the People’s Council and People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City as they welcomed the highest number of visitors in a single day since it opened to the public in 2023.
In the final two days of 2023, the tour at the headquarters remained open throughout the day without a lunch break and extended its hours by an additional 60 minutes in the afternoons to accommodate approximately 2,500 visitors.
Following the successful pilot tours during Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers’ Day (May 1) last year, the city’s tourism authorities have established a periodic event for tours of the building, turning it into a unique inner-city tourism attraction.
In 2023, the 114-year-old building attracted nearly 11,000 visitors during its eight openings, all of whom enjoyed the well-preserved architecture influenced by southern French design.
Voted as one of the top 100 things to do in Ho Chi Minh City in 2023 by experts and tourists, the tour has contributed significantly to the allure of inner-city tourism, especially during the New Year holiday season.
The building, designed by esteemed French architect Femand Gardes, is considered a classic architectural structure of the city and was completed in 1909.
Previously known as Dinh Xa Tay during the French colonial period, the building was later named Saigon City Hall until 1975 when it became the workplace for the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and People’s Council.
Located at 86 Le Thanh Ton Street in District 1, the building offers a picturesque view of Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street and the Saigon River.
In 2020, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism recognized the building as a national architectural relic site, further solidifying its historical and cultural significance.
