Hanoi’s Ao Dai Carnival 2024: “Celebrating Women: The Heart of Hanoi’s Progress and Prosperity”

The Ao Dai Carnival, a celebration of Hanoi’s cultural heritage and the elegance of its women, took place this morning, October 5, with the theme “Capital Women Integration and Development.” The event, organized by the Hanoi Women’s Union in collaboration with the Hanoi Department of Tourism, was held at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, and various streets in the heart of Hanoi.

The Ao Dai Carnival united women from all walks of life in the capital and captivated visitors to Hanoi with their graceful beauty.

Le Kim Anh, Chairwoman of the Hanoi Women’s Union, delivered an inspiring opening speech, emphasizing the rich cultural heritage of Hanoi, shaped by its ancient history and 36 quaint streets. She celebrated the unique grace and elegance of Hanoi women, known for their traditional values and warm, dignified communication style, especially when adorned in the classic ao dai.

“The ao dai is more than just a traditional garment,” she remarked. “In this age of international integration and cultural exchange, it serves as a powerful symbol of Vietnamese cultural preservation and promotion, a source of pride for our people and our women.”

The Organizing Committee also recognized the winners of the “Check in Hanoi” Challenge, a competition showcasing the beauty of the ao dai in iconic locations across the city. A total of 26 photographers were awarded for their stunning captures, including three Second Prizes, three Third Prizes, ten Encouragement Prizes, and ten Special Prizes.

The cultural event commenced with an impressive art performance, captivating the audience.

The Dan Vu, a folk dance performed by servants and residents from districts around Hanoi, added a traditional charm to the festivities.

The “Check in Hanoi” Challenge encouraged women to don the ao dai and capture memorable moments at famous tourist attractions in the capital, promoting both cultural heritage and personal style.

Nearly 1,000 participants joined the Ao Dai Carnival procession, starting from the Thang Long Imperial Citadel and making its way through the historic streets of Hanoi toward Ba Dinh Square.

Women from Hoang Mai District, Hanoi, proudly showcased their ao dai and carried forward the district’s unique spirit and culture.

Women from Dong Da District, Hanoi, joined the carnival, celebrating the district’s rich history and the strength and beauty of its female residents.

The event conveyed a powerful message of peace, hospitality, and cultural integration, showcasing Hanoi as a city that embraces its rich heritage while striving for global development.
