Signs near these stations greet our hardworking individuals with messages like, ‘Hello drivers and sanitation workers! Please stop by for a cold drink to beat the heat,’ ‘Delivery workers, grab a glass of orange juice on us,’ and ‘Wishing you a refreshing break and good health.’
Nguyen Minh Vuong, a 31-year-old barbershop owner in Da Nang, felt compelled to act when he saw scrap collectors, lottery ticket sellers, and motorbike taxi drivers drenched in sweat under the scorching sun. He decided to place buckets filled with chilled bottles of water outside his shops, offering a much-needed respite from the heat.
Vuong generously allocates funds, ranging from VND500,000 to 1 million (US$19.7-39.4), from each of his barbershops to purchase these beverages as a kind gesture.
For the past 10 days, free drinking water has been made available on Pham Nhu Xuong, Tran Cao Van, and Hai Phong Streets, providing a welcome relief from the heat.
Vuong shared his happiness in being able to lend a helping hand to those in need during such challenging weather conditions.
Nguyen Ha, a resident of Thanh Khe District, also contributes to this cause. She owns a store on Ha Khe Street and, along with her employees, takes on the task of preparing fresh orange juice. With donations from a friend, they offer dozens of glasses of this refreshing drink to sanitation workers, lottery ticket sellers, and drivers each day.
A lottery ticket vendor expressed her gratitude for the glass of iced juice, sharing how it helped cool her down during the intense noon heat. It also served as a motivator to keep her going throughout the day.
Vu, a tech-based taxi driver, noted the heartwarming presence of these hydration stations across the coastal city, providing much-needed relief to outdoor workers.
Facebook groups for delivery workers have also shared locations of these free drinking water points, ensuring that those in need can easily access a refreshing break.
The central weather center forecasts that the heatwave will continue to affect the region, with temperatures soaring up to 43 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
