Films to be screened include “Maika – The Girl from Another Galaxy”, documentaries “Return to the Memory” and “Fire from the Citadel”, as well as cartoons “Bach Dang Wharf” and “Rescuing Calves”.

“Maika – The Girl from Another Galaxy” tells the tale of Hung, a boy whose life is forever changed when his mother passes away. In the midst of his overwhelming grief, Hung withdraws into a life of solitude. However, his life is suddenly disrupted when he meets Maika, a girl from another galaxy in search of friends on Earth. The two form an unlikely bond that helps Hung cope with his loss and find the courage to move forward.

Maika was inspired by a character of the same name from the Slovakian children’s TV series “Spadla z oblakov”, or “The Girl Who Fell From the Sky”, a programme which aired from 1978 to 1983 and was popular in Vietnam.

The fantasy movie from Vietnam was selected to represent the country at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, held in the United States. It was a great achievement for the nation and its people, who were proud to have a film showcased at one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has assigned the Cinema Department to collaborate with competent agencies and centrally-run cities and provinces in order to organize a range of screenings across the nation from April 28 to May 20.
