A 10-year-old boy in Phu Yen Province, Vietnam, embarked on a cycling journey of approximately 10 kilometers to southern Binh Duong Province to meet his mother. His mother had stayed in Binh Duong Province for work during the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival instead of returning home. The boy, Vo Nguyen Thai Bao, was found riding a bicycle along National Highway 29 by the police on Friday night. His grandmother had reported him missing earlier that day. The boy expressed his longing for his mother and decided to reunite with her by cycling to Binh Duong. The local authorities have pledged to help the boy reunite with his mother and provide financial support for his family’s well-being and education.
The police in Phu Yen Province discovered 10-year-old Vo Nguyen Thai Bao riding a bicycle along National Highway 29, approximately 10 kilometers away from his home. Senior Lieutenant-Colonel Tran Khac Quang, the head of the police agency in the town, informed that Ho Thi Tuyet, the 55-year-old grandmother of Bao, reported his disappearance on the same day at 5:00 pm. Many police officers were mobilized immediately for search efforts. Bao was found cycling along National Highway 29 in Hoa Hiep Nam Ward at 6:40 pm on the same day.

The boy expressed his longing for his mother, who chose to work in Binh Duong Province instead of returning home for the Tet celebrations. The Tet festival lasted from February 8 to 14. Driven by his desire to be with his mother, the boy decided to embark on a cycling journey from his hometown to Binh Duong. He took advantage of his grandmother’s inattentiveness to venture out on Friday afternoon.
Nguyen Van Hong, the vice-chairman of the Dong Hoa People’s Committee, confirmed that the town’s administration is devoted to helping Bao be reunited with his mother. The administration is working with relevant units to facilitate the process. The local social affairs division has been instructed by the administration to provide financial support to Bao and his family, ensuring their daily activities run smoothly and supporting his education, Hong stated.
