Although the Christmas countdown has begun, Hang Ma Street in Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem District is already alive with festive cheer, illuminated by a dazzling array of holiday decorations. The street has been transformed into a magical wonderland, with ornaments and sparkling lights adorning every corner. From shimmering tinsel to life-size Santas, the street is a treasure trove of holiday delights, attracting eager shoppers from near and far. The vibrant decorations are embraced by locals and tourists alike, regardless of their religious background, reflecting the growing excitement for the festive season.

Hang Ma Street shops have been decking their storefronts with colorful Christmas decorations and festive ornaments since early November, signaling the start of the holiday season.

What was once a typical street has now burst into a kaleidoscope of colors and energy, a stark contrast to just a few days ago.

A merchant on Hang Ma Street highlights the growing trend of “green” products this year. “Many stores are moving away from fragile plastic and offering sustainable alternatives,” she says, “such as recycled wood, felt, and kraft paper.”

The diverse range of products offers something for everyone, with a variety of exciting options to choose from.

Younger shoppers, in particular, are drawn to the classic European-style decorations, adding a touch of old-world charm to their celebrations.

From decorative wooden soldiers and carved plates featuring reindeer, snowmen, and Santa Claus, ranging from VND30,000 to VND100,000 (approximately $1 to $4), to larger pieces such as polar bears, reindeer, and snowmen, priced between VND500,000 and VND1,000,000 (around $20 to $40), there is something for every budget.

Christmas trees remain a perennial favorite, and Hang Ma Street is the go-to destination for those seeking the perfect tree.

With its sparkling displays, the street has become a popular backdrop for photographs, especially for young people looking to capture the festive spirit.

Foreign tourists also flock to Hang Ma Street, delighted by the vibrant and beautiful decorations, which they eagerly purchase to add a touch of festive cheer to their homes.
