Covid Quarantine Requirement for Imported Processed Seafood Set to be Lifted
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced that, starting from September 11, quarantine requirements related to Covid-19 for imported frozen processed seafood products used for reprocessing for export will be lifted. This move is part of the ministry’s efforts to promote agricultural product exports by streamlining quarantine regulations and leveraging technology to expedite the customs process. The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) had urged the Government to revise the quarantine rules, as they were significantly impacting the seafood industry.
According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), a significant amount of products derived from animals, animal products, and aquatic creatures, whether frozen, dried, cooked, or intended for immediate consumption, are still being placed under quarantine. As a result, the size and quantity of shipments that fall within the scope of quarantine measures are substantial. VASEP considers the inclusion of these “processed goods” on the quarantine list as an excessive and unnecessary practice. Additionally, VASEP proposes the elimination of quarantine requirements for processed seafood products that are imported for domestic consumption and are deemed to pose no risk of spreading aquatic diseases.
