In an interview with ANI on Sunday, Kant highlighted that India will bring the legacy of the New Delhi Declaration to the G20 summit in Brazil. He emphasized that during India’s presidency in 2023, the G20 declaration focused on critical topics like sustainable growth, sustainable development goals, and technological transformation.
“India is committed to advancing the agenda set during its presidency. The New Delhi Declaration was ambitious and forward-thinking, addressing issues such as sustainable growth, SDGs, technological transformation, women-led development, and green development pacts. These topics remain a key focus for the G20,” Kant explained.
According to Kant, the New Delhi Declaration was progressive and aligned with the visions of Prime Minister Modi. It emphasized sustainability, inclusivity, and the importance of lifting people out of poverty and hunger.
“The declaration from New Delhi stood out for its progressive and forward-thinking approach. It embodied the visions of Prime Minister Modi, focusing on sustainability, leaving no one behind, and promoting inclusive economic growth to address poverty and hunger,” Kant added.
He also noted that under the current Brazilian presidency, the issues raised and prioritized by India during its tenure are being given due attention and reflection in the ongoing discussions.
While the G20 summit in Brazil is expected to address a range of economic and development topics, Kant predicted that the Middle East conflict would be a significant area of focus. He reiterated that the G20 is primarily an economic forum, and as such, discussions will likely center around economic growth and development.
“Geopolitical issues are inevitable, especially with the recent conflict in the Middle East causing widespread humanitarian impact. However, it’s important to remember that the G20 is predominantly an economic forum, dedicated to fostering economic growth, development, and progress worldwide,” Kant said.
Prime Minister Modi is en route to Brazil to attend the G20 summit on November 18, following his successful visit to Nigeria. As a Troika member, India is poised to play a crucial role in shaping the agenda and building upon the achievements of its own G20 presidency.
Brazil is anticipated to maintain its focus on the priorities of the Global South, ensuring that key issues receive continued attention and progress. Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that Brazil would build upon India’s legacy and further advance the interests of the Global South within the G20 framework.
“As a Troika member, I will attend the G-20 Summit in Brazil. India’s presidency last year transformed the G-20 into a people-centric platform and integrated the Global South’s agenda. Brazil has built on India’s achievements, and I look forward to productive discussions aligned with our shared vision. I also plan to engage with other leaders to strengthen bilateral cooperation,” said Prime Minister Modi in an official statement. (ANI)
