The 7th Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF) is a prestigious cultural and artistic event hosted by the capital city. This year’s festival will celebrate exceptional cinema, showcasing films with unique creative qualities from both the Vietnamese film industry and world cinema, as well as recognizing works of great artistic merit and humanistic value.
Taking place from November 7 to 11, HANIFF aims to discover and promote emerging cinematic talent and enhance the growth of Vietnam’s film industry by providing a platform for international connections and exchange.
According to the organizers, the Hanoi People’s Committee, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the festival, themed “Cinema – Soaring Creativity,” is a special event to commemorate the country’s major holidays in 2024 and the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the capital.
Vi Kien Thanh, Director of the Department of Cinema, shared that the 7th HANIFF will feature a diverse selection of 117 films from 51 countries and territories, including renowned film industries such as the United States, France, Germany, and Japan.
The competition category includes 10 feature films, with nine international entries and one Vietnamese film, “Love Upon a Time,” directed by the talented Trinh Dinh Le Minh. The short film competition showcases 19 entries, 11 of which are international and eight are from Vietnam, covering a range of genres, including documentary, animation, and narrative storytelling.
In addition to the competitive sections, the festival will present a rich variety of motion pictures to local and international audiences, including special programs such as German Cinema Spotlight, World Cinema Panorama, and Contemporary Vietnamese Film. The festival will also pay tribute to the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the capital with a dedicated Vietnamese Film Program.
Approximately 800 delegates from Vietnam and abroad are expected to attend the festival in Hanoi. The opening, closing, and award ceremonies will take place at the iconic Ho Guom Opera House, with a script that beautifully blends traditional folk art with modern architectural highlights of the city.
HANIFF will also host the exhibition “Vietnam’s Heritage through Films” and two insightful seminars: “Spotlight on German Cinema” and “Developing the Production of Films Based on History and Adapted from Literary Works.” The Film Project Market will offer a unique opportunity for filmmakers from the Asia-Pacific region to present their projects to investors and industry professionals.
The festival’s screenings and events will be held at prominent venues in Hanoi: National Cinema Center, BHD Star Cineplex, and CGV Mipec Tower. These locations will become hubs of cinematic celebration, bringing together film enthusiasts, industry professionals, and talented filmmakers from Vietnam and around the globe.
