The Italian Embassy in Hanoi, in collaboration with the Asian Film Festival in Rome, presents the Italian Film Festival 2024. With a contemporary perspective on Italian cinema in mind, the Embassy offers a curated selection of films to Vietnamese audiences.

From September 23 to 28, at 7:30 pm, the National Cinema Center in Hanoi (87 Lang Ha) will host screenings of six recent and popular Italian films, including dramas and comedies. All films will be presented in Italian with Vietnamese and English subtitles.

At a press conference on September 16, Italian Ambassador Marco della Seta announced that this year’s festival features recent successes, widely acclaimed in Italy and internationally. These films offer a glimpse into modern Italian society, addressing pressing issues such as migration and working conditions.

Io Capitano (I’m A Captain), directed by Matteo Garrone, is one of the highlights of the festival. It tells the story of two Senegalese cousins on their journey to Italy, escaping poverty. The film has received critical acclaim, winning Best Film at the 69th David di Donatello Awards and receiving nominations at the Golden Globe and Academy Awards.

Another notable film is La Chimera (The Impossible Dream) by Alice Rohrwacher. This period comedy-drama explores the Great Raid of the 1980s, when ancient Etruscan tombs were looted and sold on the black market. According to international critics, the film delves into our relationship with the past and the emptiness of materialism.

Vietnam Military History Museum receives Fatherland Protection Order
