The young musician, aged 19, is currently enrolled at the Vietnam National Academy of Music, continuing his pursuit of excellence in the field.
His dedication and talent have already been recognized, with a string of impressive accolades to his name. Most notably, he secured first place in the traditional musical instrument category at the prestigious 18th ZhongSin International Music Competition 2024, an achievement that speaks volumes of his skill.
Cuong’s prowess was further highlighted at the Qingyin Award-International Youth Music Festival 2024. Here, he once again rose to the top, claiming the first prize in the musical instrument category, solidifying his reputation as a rising star in the music world.
The festival, a true celebration of young musical talent, took place in Hangzhou, China, from July 19 to July 22. It brought together almost 600 participants from across the globe, each showcasing their unique abilities.

Keeping the Chapi sounds of the Raglai
A slim old man with long white hair and bright eyes sitting under a tree behind his house making a chapi – a traditional musical instrument of the Raglai ethnic minority, is a familiar image to the people of Do village. That old man is artist Chamaléa Au, one of very few Raglai in the region who still makes chapis and has retained the ability to fine tune the sound of this instrument.

Gongs have for generations been closely attached to the community, traditional rituals, and festivals of the S’Tieng ethnic minority people in the southern province of Binh Phuoc. The locality has adopted many initiatives in recent times to preserve the cultural values of the gongs, in particular encouraging the efforts of local artisans to keep the gongs ringing out forever.
