Stravinsky, a pivotal figure in 20th-century music, is known for groundbreaking ballets such as The Firebird and The Rite of Spring. His creative period between the World Wars is particularly notable for its unique synthesis of artistic elements, drawing from the Baroque and Classical eras while embracing modern compositional techniques and harmonic language.
This concert showcases the neo-classical movement, marked by smaller orchestral compositions with clear structures and melodies, in contrast to the post-romantic era. The SSO aims to highlight the enduring appeal of Stravinsky’s neoclassical works, demonstrating their richness and diversity.
The program features three contrasting pieces: Octet, a celebration of wind instruments; Apollon Musagète, a ballet written for strings; and Pulcinella Suite, an orchestral suite based on 18th-century Italian musician Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s compositions. Octet and Apollon Musagète will be introduced to Vietnamese audiences for the first time, offering a fresh and diverse musical experience, while Pulcinella Suite will be performed again in the sublime setting of Ho Guom Opera.
