The ‘Your World’ video-making competition is an esteemed event for British Council partner schools, spanning a global network.
In 2023, a group of talented Vietnamese students from Cau Giay district rose above the competition, claiming victory among 750+ video entries from thousands of participants worldwide.
Now in its eighth iteration, the Your World 2023-24 competition centered around the theme of Climate Change: From Crisis to Action, directly tied to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13.
A representative from a school in Hanoi’s Thanh Xuan district reflected on their journey: “The experience, from scripting to recording and editing, offered us invaluable insights and memories to cherish.” They went on to express their gratitude for the opportunity to gain valuable experiences and lessons, fostering their growth and development.
Thanh Xuan School’s entry for this year focused on climate change and proposed solutions. By engaging in this competition, students cultivate core skills that empower them to become well-rounded, creative, and critical thinkers, prepared to face the job market and shape a brighter future for themselves and the generations to come.
The British Council, through the Your World initiative, aims to inspire and empower students to drive positive change. During the award ceremony, Davide Guarini Gilmartin, Senior Academic Manager for English Programmes at the British Council in Vietnam, praised the winning video from Thanh Xuan Secondary School, highlighting its simple yet effective animation and globally applicable message.
This year witnessed over 600 video submissions and the participation of more than 3,000 students from British Council Partner Schools worldwide. In 2023, Cau Giay Secondary School from Vietnam emerged as the global winner, surpassing entries from over 3,500 students worldwide who were studying the UK school curriculum.
The previous year’s victory marked a historic milestone, as it was the first time a school from the East Asia region clinched the global award, solidifying Vietnam’s first triple-crown achievement for Country, East Asia Region, and Global titles.
