The upcoming African Film and Television Festival (FESPACO) in Vietnam is a highly anticipated event for cinema enthusiasts. From May 25 to 29, the Documentary and Science Film Studio in Hanoi will showcase five exceptional films by African filmmakers, spanning genres such as drama, tragedy, comedy, and documentary.
Kicking off this year’s FESPACO is the Moroccan drama, ‘Ali Zaoua – Prince of the Streets.’ The film revolves around the friendship between four street children in Casablanca: Ali, Kwita, Omar, and Boubker. Ali’s dream was to sail around the world, but his life was tragically cut short in a gang fight. Determined to honor their friend, the remaining trio sets out on a mission to give Ali a proper send-off.

‘Ali Zaoua – Prince of the Streets’ is an award-winning film, having garnered recognition at renowned film festivals such as the International Francophone Film Festival of Namur, Belgium; the Stockholm International Film Festival, Sweden; and multiple African film festivals. Its emotional narrative and powerful performances have touched audiences and critics alike.
The festival will also feature other captivating films: ‘Look at the Stars,’ ‘The Augury,’ ‘At the Film Cemetery,’ and ‘The Sadrack.’ These films will be presented in their original language with Vietnamese, French, or English subtitles, ensuring a diverse and inclusive cinematic experience. Admission to these screenings is free, offering an accessible cultural journey through the power of film.
FESPACO is proudly organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco, the Asia-Pacific Regional Office of the International Organization of La Francophonie, the French Institute in Vietnam, and the Wallonia-Brussels Delegation in Vietnam. This festival celebrates Africa Day on May 25, showcasing the richness and diversity of African cinema.
