With their unwavering dedication to saving lives and unparalleled expertise, these courageous men and women united to showcase their skills in an international rescue competition, raising the bar for aquatic safety and rescue operations worldwide.
Lifeguards from across Southeast Asia and Australia gathered in Da Nang, Vietnam, for a thrilling competition testing their skills and endurance. The event, held on April 27, featured participants from Australia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, and various regions of Vietnam, including the beautiful coastal cities of Hue, Quang Nam, Da Nang, and Nha Trang.
The competition included a range of challenging events, starting with a swimming race, followed by a rescue board relay, and culminating in a board swimming race to save a simulated drowning victim. The lifeguards’ skills and teamwork were put to the test as they raced against time to provide crucial assistance.
One of the highlights was the lifeguard triathlon, a demanding test of endurance that combined swimming, running, and surfing skills, ending with a sprint to the finish line. It showcased the physical prowess and determination of these dedicated professionals.
Beyond the competition, the event facilitated cross-cultural exchange and the sharing of expertise among the participating nations. Each team had the opportunity to learn from one another, enhancing their rescue capabilities and strengthening their collective ability to protect lives.
The Australian team stood out with their exceptional performance, securing first place in both the swimming relay and board rescue swimming events. Their success highlighted the effectiveness of their training and the depth of their experience.

He shared that his organization regularly partners with the Australian Professional Ocean Lifeguard Association to organize training courses, enhance knowledge, and upgrade the professional capabilities of beach lifeguard teams in Vietnam.
“Lifeguards need a unique combination of professional skills and physical strength to effectively rescue people in distress,” Vu told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper. “Through our collaboration with Australian experts, we are committed to improving our rescue techniques and ensuring the safety of all visitors to our beaches.”
