A week-long Classical Music Festival took place in Da Lat, Lam Dong province, Vietnam from March 10 to March 17, as reported by VNA. The festival featured over 100 artists from both local and international troupes, including Song Hong Ensemble, Schubert in a Mug, and pianists Nguyen Duc Anh, Liao Hsin-Chiao from Taiwan, and Tim Allhoff from Germany.

The festival began with a live concert by musicians from the Hanoi and Da Lat brass communities, drawing a large number of attendees.
On the opening evening, the Kosmos Opera group delighted the audience with excerpts from Mozart’s famous opera – The Magic Flute.

As part of the festival, a painting exhibition showcasing the works of late artist Nguyen Tu Nghiem, one of the most influential painters in 20th-century Vietnam, was held at Ana Mandara Villas Dalat Resort & Spa.
Pianist Tran Le Bao Quyen and violinist Tran Le Quang Tien performed during the exhibition opening, and a talk with curator Nguyen Nhu Huy is scheduled for March 13.
Nguyen Tu Nghiem (1922-2016) is recognized as one of the four most influential painters in 20th-century Vietnam. His innovative use of materials in lacquer painting and success with oil paintings, pastels, and watercolors made him renowned.

Other highlights of the festival include an opera concert at the Lam Dong Youth Centre, performances by Song Hong Trio, a sunset concert, and Beethoven’s A Portrait piano solo.
Workshops conducted by experts and musicians will delve into the local and international context of classical music. Participants of the String Ensemble Workshop & Masterclass will have the opportunity to perform alongside established artists.
A grand final concert will feature the participating artists, along with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra and Vietnam Youth Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Phan Do Phuc at Da Lat Opera House.
Da Lat was designated as a UNESCO Creative Music City in October last year. The festival contributes to the city’s efforts in preserving and developing various music genres.
Earlier in 2019, Hanoi became the first Vietnamese city to join UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
The Creative Cities Network, initiated by UNESCO in 2004, aims to foster collaboration among cities that recognize the role of creativity in their development. The network encompasses seven creative fields, including craft and folk arts, media, film, design, gastronomy, literature, and music.
Legendary Lang Biang
In June 2015, at the 27th Session of the International Coordinating Council of UNESCO’s Man and Biosphere Program (ICC-MAB) held in Paris, the Lang Biang Natural Reserve in Vietnam’s Central Highlands Lam Dong Province has been recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Lang Biang Reserve has retained its values of bio-diversity on a global scale, with the natural scenery mixed in harmony with local cultural features. It has contributed to forming and developing Da Lat to become a city of tourism and an international research centre on tropical forest.
