Vibrant Tet Celebrations in Numerous Countries Worldwide

With the lively melody of spring, the delectable flavors of Tet feasts, and above all, the genuine support from the community and the Embassy, Vietnamese expatriates around the world are embraced by warmth as Tet and the new spring season arrive.

Vietnamese expatriates in the UK have joined local residents in a series of events showcasing Vietnam’s traditional cultural elements to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Dragon 2024, according to VNA.

The largest annual festival of the Vietnamese community in the UK, the event attracted a large number of participants who engaged in traditional games, martial arts performances, and Vietnamese singing.

A contest to wrap ‘banh chung’ (square sticky rice cake), a traditional dish for the Vietnamese Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival, was also held and drew the participation of many individuals.

Attendees also had the opportunity to visit the spring fair, featuring traditional specialties such as Tet jam, salted/sugared dried fruits, green tea, banh chung, spring rolls, fresh fruits imported from Vietnam, as well as flowers and ornamental plants like peach blossom, apricot blossom, and kumquat.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Nguyen Hoang Long affirmed that the embassy always supports Vietnamese nationals living in the UK in community activities, thus contributing to the preservation and promotion of Vietnamese cultural and humanistic values.

In Japan, the 2024 Vietnamese New Year – “Xuan Que Huong” (Homeland Spring) Festival kicked off in Amagasaki city, Hyogo province, attracting approximately 80,000 people during the two-day event from February 3 to 4.

On February 3, the Vietnamese Embassy in Sri Lanka organized a Homeland Spring program to bring the warm atmosphere of Tet to the Vietnamese community in the South Asian nation.

Vietnamese individuals living, studying, and working in Sri Lanka gathered at the embassy to together prepare traditional Vietnamese dishes.

The Vietnamese Embassies in India and the Czech Republic also organized Lunar New Year celebrations for the Vietnamese communities there, enabling them to enjoy their home country’s largest traditional event from afar.

On February 3, in a warm and intimate atmosphere, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Mumbai, India organized the Homeland Spring program to celebrate Lunar New Year 2024 with the participation of the Vietnamese community, studying and working in Maharashtra State, India.

The event in New Delhi on February 4 featured peach and apricot blossoms, lanterns, and traditional feasts such as banh chung and fried spring rolls. Additionally, embassy staff and community members performed a series of cultural acts reflecting the essence of Vietnamese culture and spirituality.

On February 3, the Vietnamese Embassy in the Czech Republic, in collaboration with the Overseas Vietnamese Association in the country, hosted the Lunar New Year celebration, featuring performances by artists from Ho Chi Minh City’s art troupe.

In Latin America, numerous activities have been organized for Vietnamese individuals living there to embrace the Lunar New Year of the Dragon.

On February 3, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba held a gathering to celebrate Tet, which will be observed from February 8 to 14.

Participants enjoyed traditional Vietnamese dishes and watched artistic performances by Vietnamese students studying in various Cuban universities.

On the same day, a Homeland Spring program was held in Mexico. A similar event was hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil, during which Ambassador Bui Van Nghi conveyed his best wishes to guests and Vietnamese individuals living in Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Suriname, and Guyana.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela organized a banh chung presentation reflecting the traditional Tet atmosphere, symbolizing the gathering before the arrival of the new spring.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela also arranged a Tet community event that featured Venezuelan singer and songwriter Alí Alejandro Primera performing several songs in praise of late President Ho Chi Minh, the founder of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), on the occasion of the CPV’s 94th founding anniversary (February 3, 1930-2024).

Meanwhile, in New York, the Vietnamese Youth and Students Association and the Vietnamese Community Association organized a spring market that recreated the traditional Tet ambiance of Vietnamese people. The market showcased typical dishes from the three regions of Vietnam, traditional games, and artistic performances.
