“The Barber of Seville” is a compelling story that revolves around the character of Rosina. Count Almaviva has fallen in love with her, and she reciprocates his feelings. However, Rosina’s guardian Bartolo has ulterior motives to marry her, driven by his desire to acquire her substantial dowry. Through a series of comedic complications, the libretto skillfully brings the lovers together with the assistance of the clever Figaro.
With a history dating back approximately 200 years, ballet has emerged as one of the world’s most beloved art forms, maintaining its place at the forefront of the global ballet scene.
First performed in 1815, “The Barber of Seville” initially proved challenging for renowned Italian composer Gioachino Rossini. The composer faced significant obstacles, including criticism and ridicule from the audience.

In the subsequent years, the ballet gained widespread acclaim when it was presented as a form of entertainment. Contrary to conventional themes like sickness, mortality, or heartbreaking love stories, this ballet presents a delightful and carefree ambiance, inviting the audience to engage in laughter and participate in the melodies alongside the comical character known as Figaro, the barber.
The renowned Italian Artemis Danza Dance Company captivated the audience with a stunning performance that defied traditional ballet rhythms. Instead, the talented artists showcased a cutting-edge interpretation of classical ballet, characterized by choreographer Monica as an innovative and dynamic “action ballet.”
The opera Il Barbiere di Siviglia is scheduled to take place at the Hai Phong Opera House on October 17.
The performance is a part of a series of cultural activities that aim to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Vietnam this year.
