Vietnam Seeks Strengthened Research Collaboration with America

The Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education recently led a delegation to the United States with the aim of deepening ties with US policy-making and management agencies.

During the September meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State Bill Russo in Washington D.C. as part of his working visit to the U.S., Lai Xuan Mon, a member of the Party Central Committee and standing deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, emphasized Vietnam’s desire to expand research cooperation and exchange experiences with U.S. policy-making and management agencies.

He also highlighted Vietnam’s desire to further expand partnership with U.S. policy planning and management agencies in the fields of culture, education, external relations information, as well as the application of science and technology, innovation, and other areas within the scope of the Central Propaganda Department’s functions and tasks.


The representative of the U.S. Department of State emphasized the U.S.’s willingness to foster cooperation with Vietnam through the exchange of delegations at all levels in external relations and people-to-people channels, and to implement collaborative activities outlined in the joint statement adopted by the leaders of both sides.


During the visit, on September 16, Mon held a working session with Joe Sims, co-chair of the Communist Party of the United States of America (CPUSA).

Speaking at the meeting, Mon affirmed that this working visit aims to contribute to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPA) and political parties in the U.S., including the CPUSA.


Mon also proposed future cooperation between the two parties, such as strengthening collaboration, increasing information sharing, and enhancing coordination at forums for political parties, particularly the International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties (IMCWP).


Sims highly appreciated the leadership role of the CPA and congratulated Vietnam on its political, economic, cultural, and social achievements, especially amidst global fluctuations and challenges.


He welcomed Vietnam and the U.S.’s efforts to deepen their diplomatic and economic relations, particularly following the upgrade of their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

On the same day, Mon met with Merle Ratner, a left-wing activist in the U.S. and a long-time close friend of the Vietnamese people. Mon expressed appreciation for the solidarity, support, and valuable assistance provided by communists and progressive individuals in the U.S. to Vietnam during its national construction and defense, particularly from long-time friends like Ratner.


Mon expressed hope that individuals like Ratner and her husband, Professor Ngo Thanh Nhan, will continue to promote stories about Vietnam so that more international friends, especially the younger generation, will support Vietnam and the leadership of the CPA.


During his time in the U.S., Mon also visited and held discussions with leaders of the Vietnamese Embassy in the host country and the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations.
