Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan has emphasized the significance of the visit of Japanese Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko in strengthening the understanding and bond between the people of both nations. This was discussed during a meeting with the royal couple in Hanoi on September 21, after the welcome ceremony, as reported by VOV.
During the meeting, Xuan expressed gratitude to the Imperial House, the Government, and the people of Japan for their support in Vietnam’s national development and the care they have provided to nearly 500,000 Vietnamese residents in Japan.

She reiterated the desire to strengthen the bilateral friendship and cooperation, in line with the aspirations and interests of both countries’ people.
Xuan shared the understanding of the importance of educational, cultural, and local cooperation in promoting exchanges and understanding between the people of both countries. She also expressed hope that Japan would continue to support Vietnam’s socio-economic development and expand cooperation in new areas such as digital transformation, green growth, energy, and food security.
Crown Prince Akishino emphasized that Vietnam is a close and reliable partner of Japan. He applauded the contributions of the Vietnamese community to Japan’s socio-economic development and expressed his hope for more Japanese people to study the Vietnamese language.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continue working towards strengthening the friendly cooperation between the two countries. Crown Princess Kiko wished to enhance collaboration and share experiences with Vietnam in tuberculosis prevention and control, women’s exchanges, education, and healthcare.
Vice President Xuan conveyed her regards to Emperor Naruhito, the Empress, Emperor Emeritus Akihito, Empress Emerita Michiko, and all members of the Japanese royal family. After the meeting, the Vice President hosted a banquet in honor of the Japanese royal guests.

In the afternoon, Japanese Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko visited the Temple of Literature – the first university in Vietnam. They were accompanied by Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen. They walked along the tree-lined path, admiring ancient architectural works and learning about the history of the monument from the tour guide.

On the same day, a ceremony was held in Hanoi to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan (September 21, 1973 – 2023). The ceremony, co-organized by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association (VJFA), and the Foreign Ministry, affirmed the tradition of cooperation, sincerity, and mutual trust between the two countries.
The visit by Japan’s Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko on this special occasion is a strong affirmation of the tradition of cooperation, sincerity, and mutual trust between the two countries and is expected to further strengthen and develop bilateral ties for the benefit of both Vietnamese and Japanese people, as well as for peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
