The Consulate General of Vietnam in Khon Kaen, in collaboration with authorities of Nakhon Phanom province and the association of Thai people of Vietnamese origin in the province, held a ceremony on August 6 to commemorate the 47th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand (August 6, 1976 – 2023), as well as the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership between the two countries, reported VNA.
Prior to the opening ceremony, delegates paid their respects at the President Ho Chi Minh Monument in Nakhon Phanom’s Nong Yat commune.

Speaking at the event, held at the Thailand – Vietnam Friendship Village in Mueang district, Consul General Chu Duc Dung emphasized the continuous efforts made by Vietnam and Thailand to strengthen their bilateral relationship in all fields. He highlighted the importance of building trusted, equal, and mutually beneficial cooperative ties.
Thailand has become a leading partner of Vietnam in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The two countries have consistently engaged in high-level visits and exchanges, close cooperation, and mutual support at regional and international forums, particularly within ASEAN and the Mekong sub-region, contributing to the development of a peaceful, stable, and prosperous ASEAN.
Echoing this sentiment, Nakhon Phanom province Governor Wanchai Chanporn acknowledged the close relations between Thailand and Vietnam, both at the bilateral level and within the framework of the ASEAN Community, since the upgrade to a strategic partnership 10 years ago.
During the ceremony, delegates also attended the inauguration of the water tower and solar power system supported by overseas Vietnamese business families in Khon Kaen province. These projects aim to provide electricity and water for the President Ho Chi Minh Monument and the Thai-Vietnamese Friendship Village, as well as the renovation of the Thailand-Vietnam exhibition area in the village.

On the same day, a program was held to discuss trade cooperation and cross-border trade in the Northeastern region of Thailand connecting with Laos and Vietnam.
The Thailand – Vietnam Friendship Village, along with the memorial site of President Ho Chi Minh in Nakhon Phanom and other Thai localities dedicated to him, symbolize the friendship and cooperation between the two countries, and serve as valuable heritage for both nations.

Nakhon Phanom province holds the honor of being one of the places in Thailand where the late leader of Vietnam, President Ho Chi Minh, lived and worked in 1928 and 1929 on his path to seek ways for liberating the homeland. President Ho Chi Minh laid the foundation for the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Thailand is Vietnam’s largest trade partner and the second biggest investor among ASEAN members.
In 2023, as the two countries celebrate the 10th anniversary of their bilateral strategic partnership, they aim to strengthen coordination in implementing the “Three Connects” strategy, which includes connections in supply chains, connections in the economy, businesses, and localities, and connections in sustainable growth strategies. The goal is to achieve $25 billion in two-way trade.
In related news, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand, Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, in Jakarta on August 7, on the sidelines of the 44th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

The beach resort of Quy Nhon in the south central province of Binh Dinh was featured in an article published on the Bangkok Post, a major English-language newspaper in Thailand, on May 9.
