Classical Music Enchanting HCM City Audiences

The Ho Chi Minh Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) has announced that the event will feature famous artists from both home and abroad. Violist Jeon Min from South Korea, British-Vietnamese pianist Bich Tra, and conductor Tran Nhat Minh will all participate.

The purpose of the event is to pay tribute to two renowned Russian composers, Sergei Rachmaninov (1873 – 1943) and Sergei Prokofiev (1891 – 1953).

Pianist Bich Tra is expected to deliver a captivating performance with Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3, evoking deep emotions and surprise among the concert-goers. Tra’s performances have been highly praised by critics, with descriptions such as “coruscating” (The Independent), “sophisticated” (Rheinpfalz-Zeitung), and possessing “surpassing artistry and passion” (American Record Guide).

Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, Op. 30, was composed in the summer of 1909. The piece premiered on November 28th of that year in New York City, with the composer as the soloist, accompanied by the New York Symphony Society led by Walter Damrosch. This concerto is known for being one of the most technically challenging in the classical piano repertoire.

Sergei Prokofiev, recognized as one of the major composers of the 20th century, has created acknowledged masterpieces across numerous music genres. His symphonic fairy tale “Peter and the Wolf” for narrator and orchestra has captivated generations of children. The event will also feature violist Jeon Min performing Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in D major.
