Five Vietnamese athletes have successfully defended the world championship title they won a year ago, after achieving a total victory at the ongoing Suzuki Aerobics World Cup 2023 in Tokyo, Japan. This incredible feat marks a momentous achievement for the entire nation, as they take home the gold for the second consecutive year. Undoubtedly, their hard work and dedication have paid off, as the Vietnamese team have etched their name into the history books.
The Vietnamese team, consisting of Le Hoang Phong, Nguyen Che Thanh, Nguyen Viet Anh, Vuong Hoai An, and Tran Ngoc Thuy Vi, won a gold medal with 19,844 points in the group event, beating out the French team’s 19,167 points and the Japanese team’s 18,544 points.
Hoang Gia Bao, Hoang Phong, and Che Thanh proudly brought home a silver medal in the trio category, while Hoang Phong and Thuy Vi also earned a silver medal in the men’s and women’s doubles event.
In the individual competitions, two bronze medals were awarded to Phan Thi Uyen Nhi in the women’s juniors’ category and Che Thanh in the men’s singles.
The Vietnamese aerobic athletes will continue to showcase their impressive abilities in competitions for both those aged 15-17 and those aged 18 and over.
Gymnasts from 17 countries are competing in the Suzuki Aerobics World Cup 2023 in Tokyo, hosted by the World Gymnastics Federation (FIG) from April 20th to 24th. This is the second of three FIG World Cup events in aerobic gymnastics that will take place in 2023.
The first event took place in Cantanhede, Portugal from March 22nd to 26th, when Vietnam was not present.
The series will conclude with the World Cup in Bucharest, Romania on October 13-15.
After the Tokyo tournament, the Vietnamese gymnasts will fly home to prepare for the upcoming 2023 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Cambodia.
At the postponed 2021 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Hanoi last May, athletes proudly pocketed three gold and two silver medals. With this success in mind, they are setting a goal of securing two to three gold medals at the event this May in Cambodia.
