Vietnamese Artist Appointed Honorary Professor in Kazakhstan

Bui Cong Duy, a violinist from Hanoi, Vietnam, has earned the distinction of becoming one of the few Vietnamese artists to be honored with the title of honorary professor abroad.

Le Anh Tuan, Director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, declared that it is an immense honor for the Vietnam National Academy of Music and the national academic music.

This promotion is a special recognition of the academy to Vietnamese artist Bui Cong Duy. This former Soviet Union country is renowned for having trained numerous highly-gifted violinists for Russia and the global community alike,” he declared.

Meritorious artist Bui Cong Duy is the second Vietnamese artist to be bestowed with the prestigious honor after pianist Dang Thai Son. Dang Thai Son is renowned for being the first Vietnamese recipient of an honorary doctorate from the Music Academy in Bydgoczsz, Poland and the honorary Professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China.

This special title is a testament to Bui Cong Duy’s immense talent and dedication to the art of music. He follows in the footsteps of Dang Thai Son in becoming only the second Vietnamese artist to be honored in this way.

In the past, the Kazakh National Academy of Arts has bestowed the title of ‘Distinguished Artist’ upon only a select few violinists; namely, Victor Tretyakov, the winner of the esteemed Tchaikovsky Competition in 1966, Eduard Grach, who took the crown in 1962, and the renowned American pedagogue, Edward Schmieder.

In recent years, renowned violinist Duy has been invited to serve on the juries of prestigious international violin competitions, give lectures, and perform as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Kazakhstan by the esteemed Kazakh Academy. He has graciously accepted these invitations, no doubt inspired by his passion for the violin.

Violinist Bui Cong Duy, 42, is a musical phenomenon who achieved extraordinary success when he won first place at the 1997 International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Violinists in St. Petersburg, Russia. His remarkable feat has earned him widespread acclaim and recognition.

His other competition successes include winning first prize at the Zakhar Bron International Violin Competition in Novosibirsk, Russia (1995), taking first place at the Demidov International Violin Competition in Ekaterinburg, Russia (1993), and earning first prize at the Vietnamese National Music Competition “Autumn” in Hanoi (1990), among others.

Bui Cong Duy is the Deputy Rector for Concert Activities at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Since 2015, he has been the Artistic Director of Vietnam Classical Players and Executive Director of the Vietnam Connection Music Festival. He has been a driving force behind the success of both organizations, and his dedication to promoting classical music in Vietnam has been commended.
