THE HANOI TIMES — As Tet, the Lunar New Year, ushers in a time of renewal, family unity, and hopes for prosperity, the Ministry of Science and Technology has unveiled a captivating stamp collection titled Ngua Chin Hong Mao (Nine-Maned Horse). Inspired by Vietnamese folklore, this collection celebrates a legendary horse, revered as an emblem of loyalty, resilience, and abundance.

Modern reinterpretations of classic Vietnamese horse motifs on Tet stamps.
This exquisite set comprises two stamps and a souvenir block, seamlessly merging traditional aesthetics with a contemporary folk-art style, appealing to both local and international collectors.
At the heart of the design lies a duo of horses, one in white and the other in red, elegantly positioned in a yin-yang arrangement. They carry a ceremonial drum ensemble, a quintessential element of Tet festivities and village celebrations, heralding the arrival of spring and community harmony. This imagery not only symbolizes cultural rejuvenation but also embodies broader themes of stability and optimism as the new year unfolds.

The souvenir block further enriches this narrative, featuring eight horses galloping in perfect unison—a powerful image symbolizing reunion and collective strength. This symbolism resonates with official messages emphasizing social unity and continuity as Vietnam embraces rapid economic development and global integration.
Available in denominations of VND4,000 (15 US cents), 15,000, and 19,000, the stamp set is complemented by a variety of collectible formats, including first-day covers, maxicards, booklets, minisheets, and commemorative covers. These offerings are designed to captivate collectors both within Vietnam and around the world.
Crafted by artist Nguyen Quang Vinh, the collection exemplifies how government-supported cultural initiatives are increasingly serving as both commemorative artifacts and instruments of soft power. By translating local traditions into a universally appealing visual language, these stamps bridge cultural gaps and foster global recognition.
