Vietnam Airlines Unveils 1,300+ Night Flights for Tet Holiday Season

THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam Airlines, the nation’s flagship carrier, is set to operate over 1,300 night flights from February 1 to March 3, providing nearly 300,000 seats to accommodate the surge in travelers during the bustling Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday and the 2026 spring festival season.

Nguyen Quang Trung, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines, emphasized that this initiative underscores the airline’s commitment to optimizing operations during the peak Tet period. Compared to the previous holiday season, night flights for Tet 2026 have increased by 3%, representing approximately 17% of the airline’s total flights.

These night flights, scheduled between 9 PM and 5 AM, will primarily serve key domestic routes connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Danang, Haiphong, Vinh, Hue, and Nha Trang. The majority of these flights will be operated using Airbus A321 and A320neo aircraft.

“We anticipate an average increase of one to two additional daily return services on each route during the peak period, providing passengers with more travel options and alleviating daytime congestion,” Trung explained.

He further highlighted that expanding night-time capacity is a strategic measure to meet peak-season demand while reducing strain on the aviation system, ensuring safe and seamless travel for the growing number of passengers.

In parallel, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has extended night flight operations at six domestic airports from February 1 to March 1, including Tho Xuan, Dong Hoi, Chu Lai, Phu Cat, Pleiku, and Tuy Hoa.

Vietnam Airlines has also launched early ticket sales, offering over 3.5 million seats across domestic and international routes from February 2 to March 3, marking a nearly 20% year-on-year increase.

Additionally, the airline has introduced four new routes from Haiphong to Nha Trang, Cantho, Buon Ma Thuot, and Phu Quoc to address the rising travel demand and ease congestion on major routes during the peak period.
