Thua Thien Hue Greets Its First Overseas Visitors via Waterway

In 2024, the central province welcomes its first wave of sea tourists, predominantly hailing from the UK, France, the US, and Canada.

On January 7, the cruise ship Celebrity Solstice arrived at Chan May Port in Thua Thien – Hue Province, carrying 2,700 tourists, as reported by NDO.

The Thua Thien Hue Province Department of Tourism joined forces with Chan May Port Company and Saigontourist Travel Service Company to welcome the cruise ship. The passengers on board came from various countries such as the United Kingdom, France, and the United States.

This event was part of the New Year celebration and the launch of a series of events and tourism activities in Thua Thien Hue province in 2024. It aimed to create a lasting impression on visitors, showcasing Thua Thien Hue as an attractive and safe destination, known for its friendly and hospitable environment. The activity also aimed to strengthen communication efforts in promoting Thua Thien Hue’s tourism destinations, products, and services to attract more tourists, especially cruise tourists.

During the welcome program, leaders of the Provincial People’s Committee, Department of Tourism, Tourism Association, Chan May Port Joint Stock Company, Saigontourist Travel Services Company Limited, and representatives from related agencies, departments, and branches warmly welcomed the first visitors to Thua Thien Hue province by sea. They presented flowers and gifts of Hue specialties to the visitors.

The leaders of the People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue province also presented special gifts to the captain and sailors. Additionally, the tourists enjoyed vibrant art performances prepared by the Tourism Department to welcome the new year 2024.

The cruise ship passengers started their journey to visit the famous monuments and landscapes of Hue, Da Nang, and Quang Nam. This was the first cruise ship to dock at Chan May Port in 2024.

More than 1,400 tourists participated in tours to visit tourist sites in Thua Thien – Hue, Da Nang, and Quang Nam.

In 2023, Chan May Port welcomed 25 cruise ships with approximately 50,000 visitors and crew members. As of now, around 32 cruise ships with nearly 60,000 tourists and 22,000 crew members have registered to dock at Chan May Port in 2024.

Last year, the province received 3.2 million visitors, which was a 56% increase compared to 2022. Among them, 1.2 million were foreign visitors, representing a significant increase of 361% compared to the previous year. The total revenue from tourism activities in 2023 reached VND 6.6 trillion (USD 270.94 million).

In 2023, Thua Thien – Hue Province witnessed the highest number of visitors from Taiwan (China), Thailand, the US, Malaysia, France, the UK, Australia, Germany, Spain, and the Republic of Korea.
