A ceremony was held on May 13 to mark the launch of a program that is designed to provide housing support to the poor households in the northern province of Dien Bien. The program aims to build 7,000 to 8,000 houses for the needy in the locality and some Northwestern provinces within one year.

The aim of the program is to construct outstanding solidarity houses in Dien Bien Province, initiated by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF). This is an effort to promote unity and collaboration among the people of the province.

At the grand opening ceremony in Hanoi, the organizing committee bestowed an impressive VND 200 billion (USD 8.5 million) to fund the initial stage of construction for 4,000 homes.

The Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) has joined forces with a variety of agencies, organizations, collectives, and individuals both within and outside the country to donate a total of VND 1 billion (USD 42.600) for the construction of 20 houses.

At the launch ceremony, Do Van Chien – the Chairman of the VFF Central Committee – implored businesses, organizations, agencies, collectives, and individuals domestically and overseas, civil servants, officers, soldiers of the armed forces, union members, and members of socio-political organizations from across the nation to join forces and lend their support to the ethnic minorities in Dien Bien province and the Northwest region. At the launching ceremony, Chairman of the VFF Central Committee Do Van Chien called on businesses, agencies, organizations, collectives and individuals in the country, overseas Vietnamese; cadres, civil servants, officers and soldiers of the armed forces, union members and members of socio-political organizations and people across the country join hands to support the ethnic minorities in Dien Bien province and the Northwest region.

State President Vo Van Thuong warmly praised the VFF’s initiative and welcomed the response of numerous representatives from organizations, agencies, locales, companies, and individuals. He expressed his appreciation for their collective participation.

President Thuong emphasized that, in comparison to the overall progress of the country, Dien Bien and the Northwest provinces still face multiple challenges. To address this, the objectives of the “Million Hearts of Love – Thousand Happy Homes” campaign, which aims to construct 7,000-8,000 homes for impoverished households within a year, demonstrate a steadfast commitment to ensuring that all local families have secure and stable accommodations and can permanently break free from poverty, the President added.

The President advised the Dien Bien and northwestern provincial local Party Committees and administrations to exhibit greater proficiency in managing and maximizing support resources, and effectively executing solutions to guarantee social welfare and aid locals to combat poverty and lead a more comprehensive and higher quality life.

Along with promoting its historical tradition and cultural values, the provinces should utilize all resources for their fast and sustainable development, he said.

At the launch event, a number of agencies, organizations, units, businesses, localities, and individuals registered to support the program with a combined budget of over VND 280 billion (USD 11.9 million), sufficient to construct 5,600 houses.

Responding to the program, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) generously donated VND 1 billion to construct 20 houses for impoverished households in Dien Bien province.

The program to construct remarkable solidarity houses in Dien Bien Province was kicked off on May 2023 and concluded on May 2024.

It is anticipated that the construction of up to 7,000-8,000 houses for near-poor and low-income households in the province of Dien Bien and some areas of the Northwest will be supported. The support level per house is set at VND 50 million, and the total financial support for the mobilization is expected to be VND 350-400 billion.

In addition to the aforementioned support, all levels of Party committees, authorities, mass organizations, agencies, organizations, and people’s armed forces stationed in the locality should come together to mobilize and provide funding and materials to back the program.
