Romanian-based Vietnamese Community Celebrates Major Holidays from their Homeland with Enthusiasm

Exciting activities to celebrate the major holidays of the homeland have instilled a sense of home and reinforced the unity of the Vietnamese community in Romania.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Romania collaborated with the Vietnamese Association and other Vietnamese organizations within the country to organize rallies and various sports activities in commemoration of significant national holidays.

The main event was held at Bucharest’s Lacul Tei Park on April 28th, marking the 49th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-2024), the 138th International Labor Day (May 1st), and the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 – 2024).

The celebration, which took place in a warm and lively atmosphere, was attended by over 200 members of the Vietnamese community, international students residing, working, and studying in Romania, as well as Embassy officials and staff, and a number of international guests.

In his opening address, Ambassador Do Duc Thanh highlighted the significance of the Dien Bien Phu Victory and the momentous triumph of the Vietnamese people 49 years ago in liberating the South and unifying the country, ushering in an era of national independence and socialism.

The event served as an opportunity to reflect on the legacy of struggle, nation-building, and defense of our ancestors, and to express gratitude, admiration, and encouragement for the thriving Vietnamese community in Romania. It is a regular gathering that features practical activities aimed at benefiting the community and supporting the homeland, contributing to the strengthening of bilateral ties.

Ambassador Do Duc Thanh pledged the Vietnamese Embassy in Romania’s unwavering support for the community, emphasizing their commitment to protecting citizens and providing updates on ongoing initiatives and activities.

He encouraged attendees to continue exploring practical ways to support the “The Whole Country for Truong Sa” movement, respond to initiatives, and participate in the overseas Vietnamese summit, among other activities.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Romania, Tran Duy Hung, urged for unity and collaboration in strengthening the community. He also wished the athletes success in the sports competitions held in celebration of the major holidays, emphasizing the spirit of solidarity, fair play, and “maintaining good health to serve the Fatherland.”

Following the rally, various sports competitions were held, including volleyball, tug-of-war, children’s soccer, and adult soccer, with enthusiastic participation from members of the Vietnamese community and young people in Romania.
