Phan Anh Son Appointed Secretary of Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations’ Party Union

At a gathering in Hanoi on Sep. 15, the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations worked to put into practice the Secretariat's decisions on human resources.

In Decision No. 980-QDNS/TW dated September 14, 2023, the Secretariat appointed Comrade Phan Anh Son, a Party Committee member, Party Committee Secretary, and President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, to be the Secretary of the Party Union of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations for the 2019-2024 tenure.

Comrade Nguyen Quang Duong, a Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Head of the Central Organizing Committee, handed over the Decision to Comrade Phan Anh Son on behalf of the Secretariat’s Standing Committee – Head of the Central Organizing Committee.

Comrade Nguyen Quang Duong congratulated Comrade Phan Anh Son, praising him as an enthusiastic and brave officer who constantly seeks self-improvement. Comrade Phan Anh Son has held various positions in different agencies and has always successfully completed assigned tasks. Comrade Nguyen Quang Duong believes that with his capabilities, qualities, experience in foreign affairs, and management and leadership abilities, Comrade Phan Anh Son will effectively lead and direct the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations to fulfill its assigned tasks.

Speaking at the Conference, Comrade Phan Anh Son expressed gratitude to the Party Central Committee Secretariat for entrusting him with the responsibility of being the Secretary of the Party Union of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations. He acknowledged that this appointment is both a great honor and a weighty responsibility. Comrade Phan Anh Son pledged to continue his studies, practice, and enhance his professional expertise to meet the increasing demands of the role. He also committed to building on the achievements in people-to-people foreign affairs of the Vietnam Friendship Organization. Comrade Phan Anh Son extended his gratitude to the guidance and support of Comrade Nguyen Phuong Nga and previous leaders.

Comrade Phan Anh Son, born in 1975 in Hanoi, has held various positions at the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations since July 2013, including Head of the People’s Aid Coordination Committee (PACCOM), Head of the Multilateral Affairs Department, Director of the Institute for International Studies and Public Diplomacy Studies, Vice President – General Secretary of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, and President of the Institute of International Studies and Public Diplomacy Studies. On September 13, 2023, Comrade Phan Anh Son was elected as President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations for the 2019-2024 tenure, succeeding Comrade Nguyen Phuong Nga who retired on September 1, 2023, with 95 out of 95 votes in favor during the Presidium’s 6th session.

At the Conference, Comrade Nguyen Quang Duong also announced the retirement of Comrade Nguyen Phuong Nga, the former Party Secretary and former President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, effective September 1, 2023, based on the decision of the Secretariat.

Comrade Nguyen Quang Duong acknowledged the significant contributions of Comrade Nguyen Phuong Nga during her 35 years of service in diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy. He affirmed that Comrade Nguyen Phuong Nga consistently excelled in fulfilling all tasks assigned by the Party and State, and made numerous positive contributions to the country’s diplomacy. Under the leadership of Comrade Nguyen Phuong Nga, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations implemented several positive innovations and effectively fulfilled its core role in people-to-people diplomacy.
