THE HANOI TIMES — As Tet, the Lunar New Year, approaches, Hanoi’s supermarkets are launching enticing promotions to boost consumer spending. Major retailers have significantly expanded their discounts while increasing product supplies by 30%-50% to meet the surge in demand, according to the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade.

Lotte Mart’s “Sale Hunt” campaign offers discounts of 20%-35% across a wide array of products. Tet gift baskets, including gift cards, are available at up to 15% off, with additional perks for high-value cash or bank transfer purchases.

The GO! supermarket chain has introduced its “Always Low Prices” initiative, featuring discounts exceeding 30%. As part of the market stabilization program, GO! has partnered with suppliers to guarantee ample stocks of essential goods throughout the holiday season.

Beyond price reductions, GO! is enhancing the shopping experience with promotional activities. Until February 14, customers can enjoy stable prices on essential items, including up to 33% off fresh local and imported meats and fish, and up to 28% off fruits and vegetables.

Co.opmart is running a promotion through the end of February, offering over 10,000 lucky envelopes, one million reward points, and more than 1,000 discounted items.

WinMart is also joining the festive spirit with discounts of up to 50% on numerous products. Shoppers can take advantage of buy-one-get-one-free and buy-two-get-one-free deals on fresh foods, dry goods, household items, and children’s toys, along with attractive lucky money gifts for the New Year.

According to Nguyen Thi Thuy Huong, WinCommerce Northern Region Operations Director, WinMart collaborated with suppliers three months in advance to ensure sufficient inventory and stable pricing. “We’ve launched two major campaigns: ‘The Flavor of Vietnamese Tet – Full of Taste, Full of Love’ and ‘Shopping for a Complete Tet – Happy Family Reunion,’” Huong explained.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Co.opmart is offering a series of thank-you promotions, including the “Offer Handbook – 30 Offers to Welcome Co.opmart’s 30 Years” for new members. Additionally, the “30th Anniversary Milestone – Co.op-Only Offers” program reduces prices on fruits, pork, beef, fish, and confectionery by up to 30%.

Aeon Vietnam is also participating with discounts of 30%-40% on a diverse range of Tet products.

Ensuring Quality and Supply

Vo Nguyen Phong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, stated that market authorities are closely monitoring supply and demand at major supermarkets and inspecting key distributors to ensure product quality and availability.

“Suppliers and producers are encouraged to use advanced technology for traceability and food safety verification,” Phong noted.

He added that retailers offering discounts of up to 50% have spent months negotiating with suppliers, optimizing operations, and reducing unnecessary costs.

Supermarkets have responded to increased demand by working closely with suppliers to boost inventory and maintain reasonable prices. They have also intensified quality checks and hired additional staff to ensure exceptional service. “Shelves, especially those with fresh food, are constantly restocked,” Phong concluded.
