The 2023 Telegraph Travel Awards have revealed the top destinations as voted by nearly 30,000 individuals in the most comprehensive travel survey of its kind. This year’s awards mark the return of the annual event after a long hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cape Town (South Africa) has emerged as the overall winner, closely followed by Rome and Venice (Italy), Seville (Spain), and Vancouver (Canada), rounding up the top 5 destinations.
None of the Southeast Asian destinations made it to the top 10, with Singapore ranking 20th, Chiang Mai (Thailand) 23rd, and Hanoi (Vietnam) 27th.
In the best cities outside of Europe and the Americas, three Southeast Asian cities made the cut – Singapore at 6th, Chiang Mai at 7th, and Hanoi at 8th.
Vietnam has consistently ranked among the top 20 favorite countries in the Telegraph Travel Awards since 2014. This year, it holds the 18th spot, just ahead of Thailand in 19th.
In the list of top 10 favorite countries in Asia and the Middle East for 2023, Vietnam secures third place, preceded by Japan and Sri Lanka.
