Da Nang City Chairman Le Trung Chinh said the city is committed to hosting the event. The city government and other departments have inspected competition venues and accommodations for the six sports, opening and closing ceremonies.

Da Nang has prepared facilities, equipment, sanitation, food safety, security, and logistics. It has also developed plans to accommodate athlete delegations.

Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Tran Chi Cuong said the city will provide secure accommodations and transportation for the athletes, who will stay near the city center. The city has asked the Department of Tourism to negotiate with hotels for room rental discounts.

Minister Son appreciated the cooperation of the People’s Committee of Da Nang City and other ministries and departments. He urged continued support for the event.

The 13th ASEAN School Games will be held from May 31 to June 9, 2024, close to the time of the 10th grade entrance exam and high school graduation exam. The Ministry of Education and Training and localities will develop plans to ensure the exams are not disrupted.

“The event will welcome about 1,500 athletes and 3,000 accompanying people. Security, safety, support, and guidance are top priorities,” Minister Son said.

Chairman Chinh said the successful organization of the event will showcase Da Nang City, Vietnam, and its history, culture, and achievements.

It will also introduce Southeast Asian students to Vietnam’s education system, physical education, and sports. This will help Vietnamese students integrate into regional student sports.

Da Nang City expects to spend more than VND 7.4 billion (US$299,000) on the event, while the state budget will contribute more than VND 3.1 billion.

The event will feature 107 events in six sports: athletics, swimming, basketball, badminton, Vovinam martial arts, and Pencak-Silat.
