Since 2017, the Vietnam Coast Guard High Command has implemented a programme entitled “Coast Guard accompanying fishermen” in order to concretise the Party’s guideline on strengthening, renewing and improving the effectiveness of mass mobilisation work in the current situation in accordance with the functions, tasks and operation of the Coast Guard; contributing to the construction of island communes and districts to develop in a comprehensive manner.
It also aimed to create a basis for building “the all-people defence posture” at sea, and encourage fishermen to actively reach out to the sea and work at traditional fishing grounds for socio-economic development, as well as stand side by side with law enforcement forces at sea to protect sovereignty and maintain security, order and safety in the sea and islands.
