ASEAN Celebrates 56th Founding Anniversary with Flag-Hoisting Ceremony in Hanoi
On August 8, a celebration of the 56th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was held in Hanoi with a flag-hoisting ceremony.
The event is attended by leaders of relevant ministries, the Hanoi administration, representatives of the embassies of ASEAN countries in Vietnam, along with observer nation Timor Leste, as well as partners of ASEAN in HanoiThe annual event aims to honour the bloc’s common values and its commitments to the various peoples of the countries across the regionThe ASEAN flag features a blue background representing peace and stability, while the red colour represents dynamism. The 10 yellow rice stalks in the middle symbolises the agricultural civilization and the 10 member states that make up the ASEAN bloc.Addressing the ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son emphasises that with a strategic location, young and abundant human resources, and the desire for deep and comprehensive integration, there remains plenty of room for ASEAN to develop moving forward.Foreign Minister Son notes that the bloc’s success can be attributed to the significant contributions made by its member countries aiming to build a strong and sustainable ASEAN Community.Since its establishment 56 years ago on August 8, 1967, ASEAN has been constantly growing and has gradually become a central force that embodies the vision of a community living in peace, stability, and prosperity.The Minister says amid various global uncertainties and volatile geopolitical tensions, the ASEAN Community is striving to demonstrate its resilience, flexibility, and proactive adaptation to overcome numerous hurdlesASEAN is currently developing the ASEAN Community Vision towards 2045 in order to prepare for the next stage of development in order to utilise opportunities and to better respond to challenges over the next 20 yearsThe Minister expresses his hope that the bloc will become an inclusive, sustainable development community, as well as emerging as the centre for growth in both the region and the world. The Minister points out that ASEAN will not only better serve the practical interests of all its people and businesses, but also play a larger role in global issues, contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity of the region and the wider world.
