Vietnam adopted a defensive approach against Iran, but the 12-time and defending champions wasted no time to put Vietnamese goalkeeper Ho Van Y in full-defense with Salar Aghapour and Hossein Tayebi’s early efforts.
Y then denied Saeid Ahmad Abbasi and Mohammadhossein Bazyar in the fifth and sixth minutes, respectively, to keep his side in the game.
However, he could do little to stop Tayebi’s incredible strike in the seventh minute that earned Iran their opening goal.
Iran, who had scored a whopping 24 goals to top Group C, went on to display their attacking brilliance and soon tallied up four goals by half-time.
Vietnam conceded four more goals in the second half even as Iran took the foot off the pedal.
The Southeast Asian side scored a consolation goal in the 38th minute with Pham Duc Hoa’s effort.
The 1-8 loss knocked Vietnam out of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2022, which is taking place in Kuwait from September 27 to October 8, and set up a Thursday semifinal match between Iran and Thailand, who defeated Tajikistan 3-2 on Tuesday.
On Thursday, Japan, who made a comeback 3-2 win over Indonesia in the quarterfinals, will take on Uzebekistan, who defeated hosts Kuwait 3-0, in the other semifinal game.
The final match will be played on October 8.
