His photo depicts the Bodhisattva statue on the summit of Ba Den Mountain in the southern province of Tay Ninh. The capture was taken at dawn in October 2023.
This statue is among over 40 ancient Buddhist statues at Bo Da Son, a national historic site in the northern province of Bac Giang. Perched at an elevation of 986 meters above sea level on the peak of Ba Den Mountain, the 72-meter-tall statue embodies the essence of religion, culture, and art.
Tuan Viet’s photograph has outshined a total of 415,000 entries submitted by over 74,000 photographers from 206 countries and territories worldwide, making him the sole Vietnamese representative on the list.
Notably, the image of the Bodhisattva statue on the summit of Ba Den Mountain currently holds the first position on the awards’ website.
The outstanding works will be showcased at Somerset House in London, UK, this April.
The Sony World Photography Awards, organized by the World Photography Organisation, are held annually. Over 1.5 million images from more than 200 countries and territories have been submitted to the awards since its inception. This year marks the 11th edition of the event.
